OLIVE TREE CANCER SUPPORT

Our Charity Partners

We're thrilled to announce that since June 2021 we have been working with the Olive Tree Cancer Support, who have made our Carfax site their Horsham base of operations for two days a week. The Olive Tree are a fantastic local charity who provide help and support to cancer patients and their families. They are currently based at Crawley Hospital, and were looking to expand into the Horsham area to support residents in the local area too.

It was, we're pleased to say, one of those serendipitous moments - They happened to be looking for a site in Horsham, at exactly the same time we were looking services to offer from our new Carfax site. We approached them to share that we might be able to work together, and after a few meetings and cups of tea we worked out a plan (they really are quite lovely!)

We are looking forward to the growth of this symbiotic relationship, and will be keen to share more as things progress. We've included some information below about them and what they do, but naturally we also invite you to visit www.olivetreecancersupport.org.uk to find out more.
THE DIFFERENT WAYS OLIVE TREE SUPPORT

More information

Emotional Support

The Olive Tree offer a range of emotional support services including one-to-one sessions with qualified practitioners as well as monthly support groups. One-to-one sessions must be booked via the Centre Manager or appointed volunteer, and you can find out more about what is available by clicking here.
  • Coaching
  • Counselling
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Emotional Freedom Technique
They also hold a number of support groups where you can come along and meet others in a similar situation to share experiences and advice in a relaxed, friendly and mutually supportive atmosphere. Please contact the centre prior to your first visit to make sure that the group is meeting that week.

Complementary therapies

The Olive Tree offer a wide range of complementary therapies to support people affected by cancer. Complementary therapies are used alongside conventional treatments and are not an alternative. The therapies aim to help people to relax, reduce stress levels, alleviate the side effects of cancer treatments and enhance feelings of well-being. All of our therapists are fully qualified and insured.

Therapy sessions are available all through the week, including some evening appointments and Olive Tree members are entitled to 4 free treatments, after which we ask for a minimum donation of £5 per treatment if possible. If the new member is a cancer patient, then the centre will undertake to seek assurances from the patient's GP, Oncologist or Consultant before commencing ‘hands on’ therapy.

All members will be required to complete a health questionnaire before commencing any of our ‘hands on’ therapies. All therapy sessions are booked via the centre manager or appointed volunteer and we ask all members to let the centre know as soon as possible if they need to cancel an appointment. You can find out more about how this works by following this link

Wellbeing Programme

The Olive Tree have a successful wig recycling scheme, a drop in group, access to Macmillan welfare and benefits advice as well as an ever increasing range of classes, workshops and courses all of which form part of our wellbeing programme to support you through your cancer treatment and beyond. There are more details on their website, however some these programmes include:
  • Macmillan Welfare Benefits Advice Team
  • Mindfulness
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Relaxation and Meditation
  • Nutritional Therapy
  • Pink Ribbon Programme
  • Positive Health and Wellbeing Workshop
  • Trailblazers Running Club
Much more information about their wellbeing programme is of course available on their website.
WORKING TOGETHER IN PARTNERSHIP

The future

Naturally these are early stages, and come at a time where the local community as a whole is coming out of lockdown restrictions. However, we're looking forward to the relationship evolving as time goes on, and Total Therapy Studios and The Olive Tree working together on a number of projects.

We are proud to say that some of our therapist team are also getting involved with The Olive Tree, and will be volunteering their time to support those who are affected by cancer.

Many of the services that The Olive Tree provide are of course also provided by Total Therapy Studios as a private practice. However we're aware that for many who have received a cancer diagnosis, or are going through treatment some services may be out of reach. Therefore we feel that by it a great relationship to have, and look forward to it evolving across the rest of the year and beyond.
