OUR STORY IN HORSHAM

Building our studios
Sarah Dover-McCarthy had been treating in Horsham in a small practice in New Street since 2001. She had built a loyal client base and also ran classes in various different locations in Horsham, however was keen to bring this all under one roof.

It was a long search to find the right premises, however in February 2012 Denee Parade came available. It was an old engineering firm, and therefore was very much bare bones with concrete floors and breeze-blocked walls. Over a period of just two weeks it was rewired, reconstructed, decorated, and fitted. Sarah and Dom completed much of this work themselves, and what you see now is as a result of that somewhat frantic and exciting fortnight.

Since that time, in 2014 we took on the premises next door to build further treatment capacity, and in late 2016 modified upstairs to provide a second studio. In late 2019 we took on the premises at 33 Carfax for a grand opening in March 2022, but that didn't quite play out as we would have liked. However, these pictures tell some of the story of the journey we've been on...

A little bit of sketching - making a plan.

Day one - let's do this!

Back treatment room

Sarah's room when we moved in. Not especially cosy.

Seperating some space. Building a wall to create Sarah's room and the cloakroom.

Upstairs - One big space. With some doors that just opened out into thin air.

AND IN 2014

Taking over next door

It seems strange to think now that we used to have neighbours in the same building as us in Denne Parade, and we only had 75% of the building we have now. The wonderful Printz Charmin used to be in the left hand side of the premises, and when they moved due to their expansion we took over their rooms, and knocked them through to put another door in reception.

There's a massage bed under there somewhere.

AND IN 2016

Upstairs Conversion

Upstairs used to be two treatment rooms, which provided a total of three which was the original Denne Parade premises. However, when we took over the building next door, we had five treatment rooms and not enough studio space. Our classes were becoming so popular we found ourselves in a position where something had to be done. We therefore took the decision to break through our two treatment rooms upstairs, and create a smaller studio to accommodate more classes. The conversion happened over Christmas so we weren't on site to take too many pictures. However these below give you an idea.

AND IN 2019 / 2020 / 2021 / 2022!

The Carfax - Our second site

In late 2019 we expended in to the Carfax, with a view of moving our holistic therapies to this site. This 17th Century building was ideal for our needs, and we were so thrilled to take it to support our growth. We worked tirelessly to get the site ready for an opening in late March 2020. However, things as always didn't quite play out as we might have planned. However, it was a huge transformation for this fantastic building, and we're keen to show you the change and how the site developed.

Carfax | The beginning

Woo hoo - we have the keys

Carfax | As it was

Reception area. Work to be done..

Carfax | As it was

Studio. We needed to take a wall down to create the space we needed.

Carfax | As it was

Studio. This was the smaller room at the front of the studio space.

Carfax | As it was

Recpetion area. Lots to decorate, tidy, and get rid of.

Carfax | As it was

The toilets were definitely going to need a little of tidying up. Ewwww.

Carfax | Planning

Right - we need some carpets. Lots of carpets.

Carfax | planning

Same lights as Denne Parade for familiarity. Obviously we needed a LOT of them.

Carfax | Planning

The boss gets out the measuring tape. Hard hat important too.

Carfax | Building

The main wall comes down in the studio. Oh dear. That's a lot of dust.

Carfax | Building

Lots of 'stuff' came out of the walls. Probably didn't need it anyway.

Carfax | Building

Removal of the alarm system wiring, which basically included about 3km of unpleasant cable.

Carfax | Building

More building of the studio, which simply took forever.

Carfax | Back room construction

Treatment room three - putting together the kicthen cabinets.

Carfax | Back room construction

Trying to make sense of the instructions. Dom loses his screwdriver again.

Carfax | Building

Things starting to come together. Cabinets ready for building in.

Carfax | Building

Reception area - always seemed to be full of everything we were using. Never, ever, tidy!

Carfax | Building

Day and night, reception was where everthing ended up.

Carfax | Building

Treatment room three - ready for more construction.

Carfax | Building

Pia arrives to keep and eye on us, and check out the new studio.

Carfax | Building

Studio work continues. Everything seemed pretty daunting at this point.

Carfax | Building

Reinforcement are brought in.

Carfax | Building

Cabinets cabinets everywhere

Carfax | Building

Studio flooring tidy up - we just wanted to get painted by this point

Carfax | Building

The studio was probably the most endless task, which is odd given that it's smaller than our Denne Parade one.

Carfax | Building

Treatment room two - trying to line up the cabinets in a room where none of the walls are straight.

Carfax | Building

Sanding down the walls, Dom thought he'd wear a mask, which was rare for him. Ironic really.

Carfax | Building

Time to paint! We wanted to use the same base colours as Denne Parade. And they all looked the same after a while.

Carfax | Building

Then for three days all of the electrics blew up in the road. Probably not Dom's fault, but we don't know.

Carfax | Before

Treatment room one - all a little bit unpleasant, tbh.

Carfax | Building

Treatment room one - that first coat of paint to try and cover the deep purple.

Carfax | Finished

Treatment room three - all lovely and cleaned

Carfax | Finished

Treatment room one - finished and ready

Carfax | Building

Reception area and opening balloons!

Studio complete. Look what we've made!
